About The Position

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, which focuses on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems for the next generation of rockets. As a Test Engineer, you will be part of a small, passionate team, responsible for testing, operating, and maintaining specialized engine components and ground support systems. This includes leading the development and safe execution of test operations and maintenance procedures, test planning, procedure authoring, technical data reviews, identifying non-conformances, troubleshooting, and performing on-console operations. The position also involves pushing the boundaries of AI use in design, fabrication, and operations, and requires dedicated commitment to safe and repeatable operations.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Computer or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in a testing environment
  • Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work independently
  • Strong technical fundamentals in fluids and thermodynamics
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering standards, technical requirements and engineering drawings

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D., in Mechanical, Aerospace, Computer or Electrical Engineering with experimental lab experience
  • Rocketry experience through internships or club activities
  • Cryogenic experience
  • Experience designing, fabricating or operating fluid systems
  • Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, silicon diodes, resistance temperature detectors and accelerometers
  • Operational understanding of engines and engine sub-components, such as turbopumps, combustion devices, valves and other fluid components
  • Hands-on experience with integrating test articles and sub-assemblies for test
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Winplot, or other control/data acquisition and reduction software
  • Familiarity with CAD applications (Creo preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Execute test operations for test articles and components in accordance with program requirements and safety protocols
  • Develop, review, and refine test procedures to ensure thorough and accurate test execution
  • Support test facility planning, build-up, and upgrades to meet evolving program needs
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on test facilities and launch pad infrastructure
  • Analyze and review test data to identify anomalies, validate performance, and document results
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define test objectives and acceptance criteria
  • Operate and monitor data acquisition systems and instrumentation during test campaigns
  • Troubleshoot test article integration issues and support root cause analysis for anomalies
  • Maintain accurate test logs, reports, and documentation in compliance with engineering standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, procedures, and facility capabilities
  • Support hazardous operations including handling of cryogenic propellants and high-pressure systems in compliance with safety requirements
