Render is searching for a Test Engineer to join our highly competent and motivated, in-person team in a lab environment supporting Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in California, Maryland. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, supporting aircraft build, preparation, and test activities while working closely with engineering and operations teams. This position is ideal for a technically curious, detail-oriented individual who enjoys working with hardware, systems, and processes in a fast-paced lab and field environment.

Requirements

  • 0–5 years of hands-on technical experience in a lab, test, or build environment (preferred)
  • Strong hands-on skills working with electronics and hardware
  • Ability to follow technical procedures, checklists, and engineering documentation
  • Comfortable working directly on aircraft, electronics, and test equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work on-site in a lab environment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with UAVs, robotics, or aerospace systems
  • Experience with 3D printing and basic CAD tools
  • Familiarity with flight controllers or avionics systems
  • Experience supporting test or field operations
  • Background in inventory systems or technical documentation
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Support the assembly, repair, and preparation of UAS platforms for testing and operations
  • Perform hands-on electrical and mechanical work, including:
  • Wiring, soldering, and crimping
  • Installing and configuring aircraft components
  • Support flight test readiness, including:
  • Pre-flight inspections and checklists
  • Equipment preparation and logistics
  • Battery charging and readiness tracking
  • Operate and maintain in-house 3D printers to support prototyping and aircraft builds
  • Perform light CAD work as needed to modify or create simple parts
  • Assist with inventory and parts tracking for lab components and consumables
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and system issues as they arise
  • Maintain accurate documentation, checklists, and process notes to support repeatability
