The Test Driver (Local and Travel) is responsible for driving and evaluating new and prototype motor vehicles on pre-defined routes under various conditions, and providing detailed written feedback regarding vehicle performance, safety, and comfort. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Thorough knowledge of local motor vehicle and traffic laws. Able to drive vehicles with both automatic and manual transmissions. Able to sit and drive for up to 10 hours per shift (when needed) with regular breaks. Able to operate vehicle systems as equipped for typical drivers. Able to drive safely in daytime, nighttime, and in poor weather or road conditions. Able to work independently or in small groups for extended periods without direct supervision. Able to write legibly and provide complete and descriptive comments. Maintain security of assigned test vehicles and ensure vehicles are locked when unattended. Complete all vehicle pre-inspections prior to leaving the facility. Follow predetermined assigned routes and duty cycles. Complete assigned test procedures and provide thorough reports and documentation of findings. Work cooperatively with engineering staff and customers on vehicle/system issues when needed. Follow all rules, policies, and procedures pertaining to vehicle handling. (No smoking, eating, or drinking—except bottled water—in vehicles). Follow all rules pertaining to high-security vehicles. No use of cell phones or texting while driving. Arrive to work on time and adhere to schedule expectations. Provide clear, concise written descriptions about driving experience and perceived vehicle performance. Able to travel by car or plane for extended assignments within the U.S. as required. Must have completed at least one endurance run prior to assignment.
