About The Position

New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the New York State Department of Health to improve healthcare by collaboratively leading, connecting, and integrating health information exchange across the State. Founded in 2006 by healthcare leaders, NYeC works to help New York State achieve the Triple Aim of improving the patient experience of care, delivering better health outcomes, and reducing costs. On behalf of the State, NYeC leads the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY), a network connecting healthcare providers statewide, develops policies and standards that support the utilization of health technologies, and assists healthcare providers in adopting and effectively using electronic health records. NYeC is seeking a Test Automation Engineer with experience working in a data-centric environment. The candidate should have a strong sense of how to prove and demonstrate that an environment works and stays working by using industry standard automated testing tools. The Test Automation Engineer should have experience owning the test environment assets, working with data engineers and other internal stakeholders, and contribute an informed perspective on the opportunities and limitations of AI in large-scale testing. This position will report to the Director of Product and can be operated out of the Albany, NY or Manhattan, NY office on a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance, test automation, or related roles.
  • Proficiency with test automation frameworks: Selenium, PyTest, TestNG, Cypress.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and integrating automated tests into pipelines.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and orchestration tools such as Airflow (MWAA), PythonOperator, Datagaps, CloudFormation, Terraform.
  • Experience with databases including Snowflake, DynamoDB, or other NoSQL systems.
  • Understanding of cost implications of compute usage for automated tests in cloud environments.
  • Experience with healthcare-related standards and compliance (HL7, CDA, PIXV3, HIPAA) is a plus.
  • Ability to design and implement repeatable, reliable, and maintainable test processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaborate effectively in team settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Synthea or similar data generation tool.
  • Understanding of healthcare standards such as HL7, CDA, PIXV3, and FHIR to support testing in healthcare-related environments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure new features meet functional requirements and do not negatively impact existing functionality.
  • Facilitate efficient troubleshooting with Data Engineers by reducing the time spent reproducing issues.
  • Identify, document, and track defects or inconsistencies in software behavior.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites using industry-standard frameworks (e.g., Selenium, PyTest, TestNG, Cypress).
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous validation of software releases.
  • Create reusable scripts and processes that can be executed manually or automatically via CI/CD.
  • Provide ways for non-developer stakeholders to contribute to and view test results.
  • Monitor and optimize tests to minimize compute usage and execution time in cloud environments.
  • Author detailed test plans, cases, and scripts aligned with business and technical requirements.
  • Document manual QA efforts, providing permanent evidence of test results and outcomes.
  • Maintain a centralized repository of test artifacts for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Orchestrate tests across multiple databases and systems (Snowflake, NoSQL, DynamoDB).
  • Obfuscate or synthesize data to maintain privacy and comply with regulatory requirements, including HIPAA.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of QA processes, tools, and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data engineers, and product managers, to enhance overall software quality.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned.
