We’re seeking a results-driven Territory Manager to grow and optimize our independent agency channel for Personal Lines (Auto, Home, Renters, Umbrella, etc.). You’ll build strategic relationships with agency principals and producers, drive profitable premium growth, improve retention, and champion our underwriting appetite and value proposition in the market. This is a consultative, data-informed field role that blends sales, agency development, and portfolio management.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years in Personal Lines distribution/sales, agency relations, or carrier field sales; experience with independent agencies required.
  • Demonstrated success meeting/exceeding territory growth, retention, and profitability goals.
  • Strong command of Personal Lines products and underwriting fundamentals (auto/home/umbrella, catastrophe & non-cat exposures, pricing levers, risk selection).
  • Proficiency with CRM (e.g., Salesforce), carrier/agency connectivity (e.g., IVANS), and familiarity with leading AMS platforms (Applied Epic, Vertafore AMS360).
  • Data-driven problem solver: skilled in territory planning, funnel management, and performance analysis.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive presence with agency principals and producers.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, prioritizing across a large book, and influencing without direct authority.
  • Active Property & Casualty license preferred (or ability to obtain promptly).
  • Clean driving record; ability to travel [30–60%] within the territory.

Responsibilities

  • Own a defined territory of appointed independent agencies; deliver new business growth, retention, and profitability (loss ratio/combined ratio) targets.
  • Develop and execute territory plans by agency: production goals, mix of business, cross-sell/upsell plays, seasonal campaigns, and performance improvement actions.
  • Analyze pipeline and book performance; reallocate time and marketing investment to highest ROI opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for agency leadership and PL producers; conduct joint planning and quarterly business reviews (QBRs).
  • Coach agencies on quoting discipline, appetite alignment, risk selection, and closing techniques.
  • Identify, vet, and onboard new agency appointments were strategically accretive.
  • Deliver training on products, underwriting guidelines, digital tools/portal workflows, and automation (e.g., quote-bind-issue, service).
  • Coordinate marketing co-op, local campaigns, and events; leverage incentives, contests, and recognition programs to motivate production.
  • Partner with underwriting, product, marketing, claims, and service to resolve escalations and improve the end-to-end experience.
  • Gather and synthesize field intelligence on competitive pricing, forms, coverage, appetite shifts, and producer sentiment; translate into actionable feedback for product/underwriting.
  • Track and report territory performance, forecast accuracy, and pipeline health with clear, data-driven insights.
  • Ensure adherence to appointment agreements, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the company brand and values with professionalism and integrity in all external engagements.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with PEMCO's policies, values, code of ethics, and business conduct.
