About The Position

Responsible for managing the demand creation and sales of Trus Joist engineered lumber products in single-family residential and high-density or multi-family housing market segments, typically in a larger, more complex territory. This role places strong emphasis on the technical application of engineered wood products (EWP) in high-density housing (HDH) construction. Candidate must be located in the Seattle, WA or Portland, OR area. Accountabilities Independently develops and implements a territory strategy that maximizes the opportunity for success, typically covering multiple metro markets or states and generally independently of other TM support. Drives sales and profit by consistently creating primary demand for Trus Joist engineered wood products by working with builders, dealers, the design community, and building officials in both single-family and high-density/multi-family projects. Focuses on selling engineered wood solutions to generate profit. Using advanced-level skills, develops and delivers customer-specific solutions that quantifiably demonstrate value and improved returns for the builder, with particular attention to the structural and performance details of engineered wood in high-density applications. Develops and nurtures relationships with key customers at the appropriate levels to grow the business and ensure customers play an active role in determining how they are to be serviced. Builds and maintains strong relationships with architects, specifiers, structural engineers, and others—including executive-level contacts—while demonstrating deep expertise in engineered wood systems. Provides in-depth product and solution knowledge training/education to builders, the design community, dealers, distributors, and building officials, aligned with the Trus Joist training program, with special focus on engineered wood product specifications, applications, and detailing in high-density housing. Demonstrates strong technical proficiency in reading, understanding, and interpreting high-density housing structural blueprints and related engineering documents to identify opportunities, address design challenges, and recommend optimal Trus Joist engineered wood solutions.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), able to clearly and persuasively convey ideas, technical details, and value propositions.
  • Deep understanding of residential and high-density construction methods, with advanced ability to read, interpret, and discuss structural blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications—particularly those involving engineered wood products in multi-family and high-density projects.
  • Skilled in business acumen, financial competency, and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated creativity in problem-solving and developing tailored solutions.
  • Strong consultative selling ability, especially when translating complex engineered wood details into builder benefits.
  • Working knowledge of levers to drive results and meet sales strategy/profitability targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong relationships internally and externally.
  • HS/GED
  • 5+ years overall experience with 3+ years industry experience (architectural rep, dealer sales rep with strong EWP experience, preferably including high-density or multi-family housing applications).

  • This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $88,900 to $133,500 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Sales Incentive Program.
