Our Eastern Territorial Headquarters has an exciting opportunity for a Territorial Director Major and Mid-Level Giving. This position provides leadership and oversight for the Eastern Territory’s mid-level, major, and leadership giving program under the guidance of the Territorial Associate Director of Advancement (TADA) and in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels (national, territorial, divisional, Adult Rehabilitation Center, College for Officer Training, various departments) including officer leaders, development professionals, and professional consultants. This role involves close collaboration with the Territorial Headquarters (THQ) functional leads to adhere to established practices and programs, support specific projects and tasks, and contribute to the overall success of The Salvation Army Eastern Territory’s giving programs, especially in the arena of relational fund raising. The individual will be expected to proactively seek guidance and direction through the TADA, ensuring alignment and effective collaboration to achieve organization goals. This position requires approximately 35 hours of work per week and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement (3 days onsite/ 2 days remote) after three months of employment.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.
10+ years of related experience.
Five or more years of experience with individual major gifts with documented track record of success securing gifts of six-to-seven figures+.
Management experience required.
Must adhere to all Salvation Army policies and procedures.

Proven expertise in developing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals, including executives, leadership volunteers and wealthy donors, as well as internal stakeholders and leadership.
Demonstrate problem solving, strategic and creative thinking, and take initiative with consistent follow through.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly. Valid Driver’s License required.
Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment without extensive admin support. Must be highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects, a larger team of fundraisers, and competing priorities with professionalism and grace.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience working with personal computers and networking.
Experience with donor data management software.

Responsibilities

Guides successful achievement of the goal to at least double major gifts and mid-level income for the territory over time (five years) and minimally establish a pace of increased pledges and gifts at this rate consistently over time.
Provides coaching and leadership to Donor Relations Directors (DRDs) and Donor Relations Specialists (DRSs) within the divisions charged with securing financial support through portfolios ranging in value from introductory to mature multi-million dollars, in synch with Divisional Directors of Advancement.
Coordinate tracking of key engagement and fundraising metrics for the major gifts and mid-level team in collaboration with the Divisional Directors of Advancement across the territory, under the guidance of the TADA.
Works with Divisional Directors of Advancement and prospect research to design portfolios for maximum donor achievement.
Work with DRDs and DRSs to appropriately set goals and related metrics to ensure each fundraiser exceeds his/her goals.
Assists the Territorial Associate Director of Advancement in determining and applying policies and best practices across disciplines (Gift Planning, Corporate Engagement, Capital Campaigns) to foster successful program management.
Produce and analyze monthly reports of key fundraising/donor metrics including interactions, income, and progress to both territorial and divisional leadership.
Conduct/facilitate ongoing professional development staff training (major gifts cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, etc.) and professional support opportunities throughout the territory and at conferences.
Meet monthly with DRDs and DRSs to establish planning, practices and guidance that will support them to achieve or exceed key metrics and standards for performance.
Conduct monthly update calls with DRDs and DRSs.
Work with divisional supervisors (usually Divisional Directors of Advancement) for consistent implementation of best practices and effective management of DRDs and DRSs and their administrative support staff.
Evaluate divisional programs, staff, practices, and policies on an ongoing basis and formally provide an annual assessment for the major gifts and mid-level program that notes areas for improvement and opportunities for growth. Provide strategic thinking and recommendations to CRD leadership.
Facilitate cross-division/region/territorial/national/international solicitations in collaboration with appropriate Salvation Army leadership and in adherence to current policies.
Serve as a key participant for any capital/endowment campaigns in collaboration with professional campaign counsel and the Territorial Director of Advisory Boards and Campaign Success.
Facilitate increased collaboration between major gifts, gift planning, and territorial gift processing regarding cultivation and solicitation of qualified donors for high-end- outright and/or planned gifts. Propose ways to incentivize such collaboration through gift crediting policies.
Collaborate with the communications and marketing professionals on donor messaging and materials to support the divisions (samples, cases for support, thank you letters, templates, etc.)
Develop, alongside the Territorial Director of Gift Planning, an effective case, communications, and materials to increase gifts for program, endowments, and naming opportunities.
Assist divisions with professional recruitment and training, orientation, and onboarding of major gifts and mid-level professionals.
Collaborate with territorial donor data management staff to ensure robust and effective use of the territory-wide database (Salesforce) in support of major gifts and mid-level gifts (portfolio assignments, contact reports, goals, etc.)
Facilitate improved major gifts and mid-level donor stewardship practices within divisions through ideasharing, tactical advice, activity tracking, setting of standards, support through development of content materials, integrated calendar planning, and moves management.
Other relevant duties and projects as assigned by the Territorial Director of Advancement and Territorial Associate Director of Advancement.
