About The Position

The position involves mastery of the safe operational capabilities of a skid steer tractor while working in a hopper barge, specifically with the Heyl Patterson barge Unloader discharging grain and grain by-products. The operator must be able to operate the skid steer tractor safely and productively in various conditions, including high/low river conditions and inclement weather. A thorough understanding of the barge unloading process is essential, as well as the operation of the tractor hoist and winch systems for accessing hopper barges. The operator is responsible for recognizing and identifying various grains and grain by-products, communicating any issues encountered during unloading, and completing daily operations reports. Additionally, the operator must be proactive in recognizing excessive emissions and ensuring adherence to safety protocols during barge unloading operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate skid steer tractor safely and productively in all conditions.
• Understand the overall barge unloading process and perform duties as directed by the Unloader operator.
• Operate tractor hoist and winch systems for access to hopper barges.
• Recognize and identify various grains and grain by-products.
• Communicate any out of condition grain or safety issues to the Unloader operator.
• Complete daily operations reports for each skid steer tractor used.
• Notify Unloader operator of excessive emissions from the barge Unloader or ship loading spouts.
• Recognize hazards associated with barge unloading operations and ensure adherence to safety rules.
• Participate in cross-training as cover handlers as needed.
• Attend safety meetings and training sessions as directed.
• Understand emergency evacuation procedures.
