About the position

The position involves creating freight manifest lists using applicable coding and assisting the dispatcher with assigning pick-up and delivery drivers for local delivery activities and/or road drivers. The role includes maintaining the city dispatch sheet and advising drivers on any problems encountered during the pick-up and delivery of freight. Responsibilities also include scheduling, tracking, tracing, and billing, as well as coordinating Line Haul drivers through computer systems and phone communication to ensure timely freight movement. The employee will interact with various personnel including the Line Haul Supervisor, Operations Planner, terminal personnel, and Line Haul Drivers. Additional duties involve maintaining accurate records of items received or shipped, investigating and resolving freight issues, and providing guidance and training to less experienced staff. Regular attendance is required, and the job may involve performing other duties as assigned based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Create freight manifest list using applicable coding
  • Assist dispatcher with assigning pick-up and delivery drivers
  • Maintain city dispatch sheet and advise drivers on problems
  • Assist with city dispatch when needed
  • Schedule, track, trace, and bill freight
  • Coordinate Line Haul drivers via computer and phone communication
  • Interact with Line Haul Supervisor, Operations Planner, and terminal personnel
  • Assist with Line Haul activities
  • Plan dispatches to meet cost and service goals
  • Maintain count list of items received or shipped
  • Investigate and resolve overages, shortages, and damaged freight issues
  • Prepare paperwork and repack OS&D freight
  • Maintain records of OS&D freight issues
  • Maintain a clean and organized OS&D area
  • Coach and answer questions for less experienced clerical staff
  • Provide one-on-one training to less experienced staff
  • Set up and maintain employee files and payroll records
  • Compile and track job applicant information for AAP compliance
  • Coordinate and process payroll change forms
  • Conduct new employee orientation and collect paperwork

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledgeable in customer care, OS&D, billing, pricing, tracing, dispatching
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • AS400 experience preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Ability to work night or alternate schedules as needed
  • Experience in the transportation industry is a plus
  • Ability to lift approximately 20 lbs or more
