About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for a tenure-track or tenured Associate Professor of Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. Primary duties will include leading the launch of the new Civil Engineering program and establishing state-of-the-art laboratories in areas such as construction materials, foundations, and structural analysis. They also encompass developing a robust externally funded research program, enhancing the School’s research profile, and fostering collaborations with industry, government, and interdisciplinary teams. Primary duties further extend to contributing meaningful service to the School, College, and University, mentoring junior faculty, guiding student research, and positioning the laboratories as a regional hub for industry-relevant innovation. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs in Systems, Computer, and Petroleum Engineering and will launch a multidisciplinary MS in Systems Engineering in Fall 2026. Faculty numbers have seen remarkable growth alongside thriving enrollment and program expansion.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated research excellence and teaching effectiveness.
  • Leadership in establishing laboratory facilities.
  • Experience in mentoring faculty and guiding programmatic initiatives in structural engineering and lab-based education.
  • Expertise in one or more structural engineering subfields such as reinforced concrete, steel, foundations, construction materials, or structural analysis.
  • Ability to lead lab development and manage hands-on experimental programs.
  • Engagement with industry and cutting-edge research initiatives.
