The Department of Humanities & Communication seeks a tenure-track assistant professor with a Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical Communication, or a related field. Applicants who are ABD and scheduled to graduate before August 2026 will also be considered. The successful candidate must have a record of scholarly productivity that demonstrates potential to sustain high-quality research in the field of writing studies, with a specialty in writing in the disciplines/writing across the curriculum, multilingual communication, science rhetoric, or a related field. Individuals with a research area related to aviation, engineering, or emerging technologies are particularly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will consider opportunities for collaboration across campus and have experience in writing program administration. Teaching duties, to begin August 2026, include writing courses and contributions to HU/COM’s general education offerings, including composition, speech, and/or humanities. The candidate will have the opportunity to teach existing courses and develop new courses in their area of specialization. Candidates must have a record of teaching excellence. Service responsibilities could include departmental, college, and university committees and other activities to support the department’s mission. The first-year course load will be 3/3 with the expectation of active research.
