About The Position

The Economics Department at Colby College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in macroeconomics at the Assistant or advanced Assistant level. We are searching for a macroeconomist with potential for excellence in research and teaching who can contribute to our macroeconomics sequence at the introductory and intermediate levels. All department faculty also offer elective courses that are informed by their scholarship. The teaching load at Colby is 4.5 classes per year, typically achieved in the department through 3 distinct courses. We are seeking candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds who, through their teaching, scholarship, and service, will contribute to access, opportunity, and inclusion within the campus community. Colby is a prestigious liberal arts college located in Central Maine with high standards for teaching and research. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and actively engaged in the classroom and independent research. Our 19 continuing department faculty have active research agendas generously supported by the College, including a pre-tenure sabbatical during the fourth year, significant start-up and continuing research funds, and department-funded student research and teaching assistants. Please visit www.colby.edu and http://www.colby.edu/economics/ for more information about the College and Department of Economics. Our review of completed applications will begin on November 14, 2025 and continue until the position is filled. We plan to conduct first-round interviews in mid-December and to schedule campus visits for finalists in January. To be considered for an interview your application dossier must include: (i) a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Colby and outlines your research agenda; (ii) your curriculum vitae; (iii) three confidential letters of recommendation; (iv) a representative sample of your research; (v) your graduate transcript; and (vi) a statement of teaching philosophy that demonstrates a commitment to equitable and inclusive undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment and evidence of classroom teaching effectiveness, including course evaluations if available.
