The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory history courses as well as upper-division courses in their specialty. We are open to all fields, with the strongest consideration given to candidates whose expertise enables them to teach African American History and contribute to our African American Studies program. Candidates with multi/interdisciplinary, interregional, and transnational expertise that spans different historical periods, regions, or academic disciplines and who can demonstrate a readiness to develop courses beyond their area of specialty will be especially valued. Responsibilities will include contributing to the Oglethorpe Core Program by teaching Historical Perspectives on the Social Order. Oglethorpe University’s mission pledges to educate students to be citizens in a global world, and we are committed to diversifying the course offerings at Oglethorpe. We are open to candidates with a variety of historical specialties. This position offers an opportunity to expand and deepen the offerings of the History program as well as help develop the curricular content of Oglethorpe’s Core Curriculum. An Assistant Professor typically teaches three courses (12 credits) per semester on a ten-month contract. Research expectations are balanced with teaching responsibilities, and service commitments include contributing to the history program, university committees, and/or mentoring students. We welcome applicants who are committed to exploring innovative teaching methods, including the development of learning opportunities beyond the classroom that take advantage of the rich opportunities available in metropolitan Atlanta and its environs.
