The Citadel, a fully accredited, public, co-educational college located in historic Charleston, South Carolina, invites applications for two full-time, nine-month faculty positions in the Swain Department of Nursing beginning as early as January 2026, but no later than August 2026. The Citadel serves approximately 2,300 undergraduate students in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and another 1,200 civilian students through The Citadel Graduate College, which offers evening and online undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs. For fourteen consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked The Citadel as the top public college in the South among master's-level institutions. The Swain Department of Nursing, part of the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics, offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Established in 2017, the program includes a traditional day program for cadets and an evening degree-completion program for non-cadet students. The program emphasizes small class sizes, face-to-face instruction, and strong faculty-student engagement. Position 1: Instructor in Nursing (Obstetrics Focus) The primary responsibility of this position is teaching undergraduate nursing students in classroom and clinical settings, with a primary focus on Obstetrics. Additional teaching assignments may include fundamentals of nursing, health assessment, public health nursing, nursing delegation, or other areas as needed. Faculty members are also expected to contribute to departmental and institutional service. Faculty development and scholarship are encouraged and supported. Position 2: Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing/Instructor (Medical-Surgical Focus) The primary responsibility of this tenure-track position is teaching undergraduate nursing students in classroom and clinical settings, with a primary emphasis on Medical-Surgical Nursing. Additional teaching responsibilities may include health assessment, fundamentals, or other areas depending on departmental needs. Tenure-line faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly activity, serve as academic advisers, participate in curriculum development, and contribute to departmental and institutional governance.
