About The Position

East Stroudsburg University's Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is looking for a Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to research, industry and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. The ESU Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry programs are accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). The department is housed in the Hoeffner Science and Technology Center populating 13 dedicated teaching and research laboratories and a cold room, in addition to modern faculty offices. The department maintains an impressive suite of instrumentation highlighted by a Bruker 400Mhz NMR, Agilent LC/Q-TOF Mass Spec, GC/MS, GC, Eclipse Fluorescence Spec and HPLC, a Perkin Elmer AAS, NexION ICP-MS, Thermo Nicolet FTIR and a Kodak gel imaging system complement a host of other instrumentation including several UV/Vis Specs and centrifuges.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry must be completed prior to appointment.
  • Highly qualified candidates with ABD status at the time of application may be considered.
  • A specialty in physical chemistry is preferred; specialties in biophysical or physical organic chemistry will be considered.
  • Previous experience or substantiated capability to teach physical chemistry is necessary.
  • Demonstrated experience or potential to teach general chemistry or biochemistry would be valued.
  • A strong publication record in the area is highly desirable, as is experience in obtaining research grant funding.

  • Experience in departmental curriculum and course development.
  • Experience in secondary education chemistry teacher preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching physical chemistry and associated laboratories.
  • Teaching general chemistry and courses for non-majors as well as other advanced courses within the chemistry programs.
  • Demonstrating highly effective teaching and enthusiasm for student advising and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduates.
  • Participating in university activities including committee memberships, curriculum development, and community service.
