The duties include educating and training professional engineering staff in a wide range of activities involved in the production and testing of iron garnet-related Faraday rotator materials. These materials are used in applications such as optical isolation for laser-based communication systems operating at various wavelengths in the near-infrared region.

  • Educate and train professional engineering staff in the production and testing of iron garnet-related Faraday rotator materials.
  • Review and analyze collected data on various materials to qualify them for shipping to customers.
  • Follow site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.
  • Execute and maintain applicable ISO standards within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
  • 20+ years experience in liquid phase epitaxial (LPE) growth of thick film iron garnet wafers on lattice-matched garnet substrates.
  • Ability to visually characterize morphological characteristics of the grown films.
  • Ability to perform microscopic characterization to identify defects that may be present in grown films.
  • Experience measuring the magnetic properties of these materials using a vibrating sample magnetometer.
  • Experience measuring the magneto-optical properties of Faraday rotator materials, including rotation angle, extinction ratio, and insertion loss using a magneto-optical test set.
  • Knowledge of associated electrical and electronic equipment used in the growth and characterization of iron garnet films and ability to troubleshoot and repair such equipment as needed.
