About The Position

The Salina Municipal Golf Course is seeking Recreation Assistants for two levels: I and II. The Recreation Assistant I position is an entry-level role for individuals aged 15 years and older, while the Recreation Assistant II position is for those aged 18 and older and requires more experience and responsibility. Both positions involve working under supervision and require a commitment to customer service and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Fifteen (15) & sixteen (16) year olds will work in a non-driving capacity.
  • Seventeen (17) year olds must possess a valid driver's license to operate utility vehicles & golf carts on city property.
  • Must have reliable transportation to-and-from work.
  • Must be available to work shifts.
  • Must attend required trainings & meetings.
  • Required to review posted event calendars.
  • Must follow scheduling protocols & be able to obtain weekly work schedule.
  • Must follow time & attendance guidelines must adhere to payroll requirements.
  • Must respond in a timely manner to all forms of communication regarding City of Salina employment.
  • Must be able to lift 10-40 pounds frequently.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR & First Aid certifications desired.
  • Prior work in Parks & Recreation in the Recreation Assistant I position or related work preferred.
  • Experience in youth development.
  • Coaching or working with youth ages 5-17.
  • Experience as a credentialed school educator preferred.
  • Golfing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patrons entering the Salina Municipal Golf Course Pro Shop.
  • Assists patrons by providing program & class information.
  • Maintains courteous behavior toward all Golf Course employees & patrons.
  • Collects money for green fees, programs, rentals, & pro shop sales.
  • Receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
  • Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
  • Processes refunds through a computer generated system.
  • Answers the telephone & records incoming calls.
  • Reserves tee times & assigns tee times to golfers.
  • Works concessions.
  • Maintains general order & cleanliness in the pro shop.
  • Responsible for performing outside work including picking up balls on the driving range, washing & cleaning golf carts.
  • Administers basic first aid, if needed.
  • Responds in emergency situations within scope of training.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Provides assistance to the First Tee Director in the organization & implementation of the First Tee program.
  • Works with staff to coach participants through First Tee Golf & Life Skills Experience Lesson Plans.
  • Models The First Tee's 9 Core Values: Honesty, integrity, respect, confidence, responsibility, judgement, courtesy, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
  • Assists with outreach programs.
  • Ensures that classes are set up according to lesson plans.
  • Prepares supplies & facility before & after lessons.
  • Makes the game fun for youth participants.
  • Ensures that participants are picked up by a parent/guardian after lessons.
  • Maintains the cleanliness & quality of equipment.
  • Maintains & organizes all equipment storage areas.
  • Takes initiative & assists with additional work at the Golf Course.
  • Participates in required academies, regional & annual meetings, orientations, & trainings.
