About The Position

An Elementary School Social Worker supports students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development to help them succeed academically and personally. Working within Michigan school systems and guidelines, they provide services to both general education and special education students, including those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Requirements

  • Valid State of Michigan social work license (LLMSW or LMSW)
  • Completion of a Michigan-approved school social worker preparation program
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a Michigan School Social Worker Certificate (Preliminary or Professional)
  • Knowledge of special education laws, including IEP processes and multidisciplinary team collaboration
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, school staff, and community agencies

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges
  • Assess student needs and develop intervention or behavior support plans
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success
  • Participate in and help implement IEPs, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Provide crisis intervention and ongoing case management for at-risk students
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services and/or Building Administrator(s)
