About The Position

Join Woodwell’s Arctic team as a Temporary Research Assistant (Geospatial Data Scientist) on a 3-month project. As the Research Assistant, you will be the core technical contributor on this project, responsible for implementing, training, and validating a proof-of-concept deep learning framework. You will work closely with the PI and a multidisciplinary team of climate scientists to translate diverse climate datasets into a unified representation capable of cross-domain time series prediction. This will potentially lead to a journal publication (second author co-authorship for the role).

Requirements

  • Machine learning and Deep learning time series forecasting
  • Multi-domain deep learning
  • Claude Code and vibe coding
  • Experience with geospatial data sets
  • Master's in Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Science, or a related quantitative field or Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of professional experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with climate or Earth science data
  • Experience with fine-tuning GeoAI (geospatial artificial intelligence) foundation models

Responsibilities

  • Process raw climate data to AI-ready data sets, including data cleaning, data curation, and data visualization
  • Build and manage data pipelines that unify diverse climate datasets (physical model outputs, remote sensing, in-situ flux measurements) into a common token representation for model ingestion
  • Build AI models for multi-domain time series forecasting
  • Document writing
