About The Position

Nexus Family Healing is seeking a Temporary Relief Youth Care Professional for their Portland, Oregon location. This small PRTF program at Nexus’ Walden Crossing serves up to six youth, ages 10-17, who have mental and developmental disabilities and are involved in the justice system. The program is a secure location offering high staff-to-youth ratios, 24/7 nursing, recreational and therapeutic professionals, psychiatric services, and various other therapies. The role involves making a true difference in the lives of youth and their families.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 Years of Age
  • Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • A desire to work in the human services field & caring for at-risk youth
  • Must have the ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities and understand their unique needs and challenges.
  • Must be open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities, considering factors such as language, traditions, and values.
  • Must successfully pass a ODHS criminal background check
  • Successfully participate and complete a three-part Nonviolent Crisis Intervention exam and training

Responsibilities

  • Support and reinforce the therapeutic plan of clients by providing guidance and direction to residents in their daily living activities
  • Provide mentorship and supervision of resident daily activities and behavior according to established guidelines and procedures
  • Participate with coworkers as a team on implementation of treatment plans and therapeutic services
  • Remain cognizant of individual client phases, privileges, restrictions and adapt interactions accordingly
  • Ensure resident safety and collaborate with coworkers to maintain an environment that is positive, respectful, clean and therapeutic
  • Work effectively with clients’ families/support networks to reinforce positive family partnerships; Follows established protocols in the use of family engagement and involvement techniques
  • Plan and participate in off-campus resident activities and assist in the transportation of clients to home visits, doctor appointments, planned recreational activities
