About The Position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing digital audio/video processing and quality assurance reviews, and preparing reproductions of audio/video files from the Digital Mobile Audio Visual (DMAV) system and the Body Worn Camera (BWC) system.

Requirements

  • Ability to use non-linear editing systems to perform audio and video duplications and editing.
  • Ability to quickly and appropriately respond to requests for data and information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with City employees, other government officials, and the public.
  • Graduation with an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job.
  • A combination of education and experience related to the position as determined by the hiring manager may substitute for education up to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License, if required for the position.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions will result in being disqualified for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs quality assurance of digital evidence and digital documentation captured on DMAV and BWC video in the field by officers by researching backend client in-house programs, cloud evidence storage, and case tracking programs to ensure items are classified properly.
  • Manages digital evidence by uploading and exporting to and from various police evidence and case tracking systems.
  • Provides all requests for digital footage from the video systems to outside legal entities such as the District Attorney, County Attorney, and other law entities by researching databases to ensure the department complies with the Michael Morton Act.
  • Prepares audio/video media for release by performing required redactions to both video and audio tracks based on laws regarding release of information.
  • Processes general open records requests and internal unit requests for audio/video from the systems by copying and burning videos to discs after they have been prepared for distribution.
  • Manages video cards in police units by removing, uploading, or replacing, as necessary, while ensuring wireless captures are uploading correctly, troubleshooting any issues with the wireless upload.
  • Provides, as necessary, training and guidance to others, both inside and outside the organization.
  • Research, locate, and provide audio/video evidence (body-worn camera and in-car videos) to Prosecutors, Courts, Supervisors, Officers, and Central Records.
  • Reproduce multimedia copies of audio/video files and export data to various codec types.
  • Coordinate and assist police officers and other law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Inventory, remove, and replace secure data cards from police vehicles.
  • Provide internal and external customer service.
  • May operate city vehicle.
  • May testify in court as a witness.
