About The Position

Reporting to the Vice President for Communications, the Temporary Photographer/Videographer is a member of a collaborative, dynamic, and strategic Multimedia who supports the vision and goals of the Office of Communications. The Temporary Photographer/Videographer is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, execution, and delivery of high-quality, on-brand video and photo assets. The position will also maintain a strong working relationship and day-to-day collaboration with the Strategic Communications team, with the possibility of direct photo assignments originating from this team’s work and needs. Eighty percent of the role support Wesleyan’s visual storytelling through still photography assignments for Wesleyan University Magazine, The Connection, strategic communications projects, social media campaigns, and special assignments. Approximately 80% of duties include the creation of high-quality videos and 20% of the duties include still photography. Responsibilities Ensure the application of industry best practices across all video and photo production activities, including pre-planning (i.e., creative brief, script, storyboarding, mood boards, budget, timeline, etc.), content capture (i.e., scouting locations, securing required permits, releases, etc.), post-production work and on-time delivery. Work collaboratively within the Office of Communications to generate new ideas and produce creative concepts that support the University’s brand. Perform post-production tasks such as editing video content, photo touch-up, and color correction. Catalog and maintain a library of raw video, photo content, and project assets through internal storage server and archive. Participate in group critiques and team meetings regarding complete and upcoming productions. Maintain, transport, set up, and breakdown of production equipment for shoots in collaboration with other video producers on- and off-campus. Perform other duties as assigned. This is an on-campus position located in Middletown, Connecticut.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience in videography and photography or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Technical expertise in videography and photography includes pre and postproduction activities.
  • Experience with video and photo editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite applications, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or equivalent, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and editing raw video/photo into engaging materials as well as social media-specific video and photo content.
  • Experience with professional camera systems and production equipment, such as mirrorless/DSLR cameras, lighting, and audio.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, partners, and others.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interacting openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in film production, multimedia production, communications, journalism, or related discipline.
  • Familiarity with managing and archiving video footage; strong use and enforcement of naming conventions for raw footage and photo files as well as final master programs.
  • FAA Remote Pilot Certificate
