About The Position

The Temporary Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides high-quality, student-centered primary care, episodic/urgent care, sexual & reproductive health services, and health education in a campus-based ambulatory setting. This role supports the College Health Center's mission to promote student well-being, reduce barriers to academic success, and advance health equity. The NP practices in collaboration with physicians and other clinicians pursuant to institutional policies and applicable state law and regulations.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program; current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., AANP/ANCC).
  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the area of practice (e.g., Family, Adult) through ANCC or AANP.
  • Unencumbered current Nurse Practitioner license in the State of New York; eligibility for prescriptive authority per New York State law.
  • Prescriptive authority in New York State (including controlled substances registration and DEA certification) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) required; ACLS preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of post-graduate NP clinical experience in primary/urgent care, family medicine, internal medicine, or college health (strong new grad applicants considered).
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging; ability to provide culturally responsive care to diverse student populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in college health, adolescent/young adult medicine, sports medicine, or women's health.
  • Experience with behavioral health integration and motivational interviewing.
  • Microsoft Office, Google Drive, CARS
  • Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., PyraMed Health).

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and management for common acute and chronic conditions in an age-appropriate college population.
  • Perform focused histories and physicals; order and interpret diagnostic tests; develop differential diagnoses; and create evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Provide sexual & reproductive health services (e.g., contraception, STI screening and treatment, PrEP/PEP, pregnancy testing and counseling) consistent with current guidelines.
  • Administer immunizations and medications in accordance with standing orders and safety protocols.
  • Counsel students on self-care, injury/illness prevention, and health promotion; provide culturally responsive education and resources.
  • Coordinate referrals to campus partners (e.g., Counseling, Disability Services, Athletics) and community specialists.
  • Document encounters, orders, and communications in the electronic health record (EHR) accurately and timely; safeguard PHI in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA.
  • Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and compliance activities; contribute to protocol development and updates.
  • Support communicable disease management (e.g., testing, isolation guidance, reporting) per public health and campus policy.
  • Provide limited telehealth services as appropriate; escalate emergencies per clinic protocols.
  • Precept or mentor trainees (as applicable) and model professional, inclusive care.
