About The Position

The Temporary Park Naturalist position is designed to provide quality outdoor environmental and recreation education, allowing participants to enjoy and explore the Dakota County Park system. The role includes developing curriculum and completing projects in support of the environmental education team. The position requires variable hours, up to 40 hours per week, with an average of 30 hours per week from May through October, including rotating weekend and evening shifts based on programming needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (GED) and two years of pertinent college-level coursework working towards a degree in environmental sciences, education, or a related field OR a graduate (associate's or bachelor's) in a similar field.
  • At least 6 months of hands-on environmental education, recreation education, or youth work experience, which may have been earned as a volunteer, intern, or direct employment.
  • A valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct work experience implementing youth or community programs.
  • Language proficiency in Spanish, Somali, and/or Hmong.

Responsibilities

  • Lead education programs including summer camps, general public classes, birthday parties, school field trips, and others.
  • Assist with recreational and outdoor environmental education program preparation, including maintaining program equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare curriculum, educational displays, and other interpretative materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
