About The Position

The Temporary Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a member of the Student Health Services who provides advanced clinical care and administrative support to the Health and Wellness Center. This role delivers comprehensive primary and ambulatory care to students, supports student health requirement compliance, and collaborates with campus and external partners to promote student well-being. Reporting to the Director of Health Services, the position is temporary, part-time, and does not include University benefits.

Requirements

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner in New York State
  • National NP certification in an appropriate specialty (e.g., Family, Adult-Gerontology)

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary and ambulatory health care services to students, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute, urgent and select chronic conditions
  • Perform clinical evaluations, physical examinations, and develop treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies in accordance with state licensure and university protocols
  • Provide first aid, vaccinations, immunizations, phlebotomy, and other clinical procedures within the NP specific scope of practice
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic testing, including but not limited to flu, strep, and other point-of-care or laboratory-based tests
  • Determine need for referrals to specialists or higher levels of care and coordinates follow-up treatment and continuity of care
  • Collaborate with the Director of Health and Wellness Center and other clinical staff regarding complex cases, referrals, and care coordination
  • Complete daily clinical documentation and data reporting in the electronic medical record system (Medicat), NY State ECLRS systems, and other required internal or external reporting platforms
  • Review and evaluate new and incoming student health forms and immunization records to determine compliance with university and state health requirements
  • Lead or support outreach to non-compliant students regarding immunizations, health requirements, or follow-up care
  • Conduct and oversee contact tracing activities as needed, including assessment, documentation, and student communication
  • Communicate and coordinate with external vendors and laboratories for diagnostic and laboratory services
