About The Position

Babylist is seeking a Temporary Merchandise Planner I to join our growing E-Commerce team and help bring the best products to growing families. As the Merchandise Planner I, you'll be the backbone of our inventory strategy-ensuring the right products are in stock at the right time to delight our customers. You'll support the planning and management of our highly curated assortment of baby apparel and gear, partnering closely with Buying, Operations, and Finance to forecast demand and keep our inventory flowing smoothly. You'll dive into sales data, spot trends, and solve inventory challenges while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure families find and love the products on Babylist. This is a temporary role covering a parental leave from January 2026 through June 2026.

Requirements

  • You bring 2-4 years of inventory planning experience and have been a key player in driving pre-season strategy from concept to execution
  • You tackle complex problems head on, using data and critical thinking to evaluate multiple variables and drive smart decisions
  • Numbers are your native language. You interpret trends, spot opportunities, and translate data into actionable recommendations with ease
  • You're an Excel power user who can manipulate data, build models, and deliver insights that make a real difference
  • You have solid expertise in retail math and inventory planning and apply industry best practices naturally
  • You're adaptable and agile. When priorities shift (and they will), you pivot smoothly and keep things moving
  • You're always looking for the better way. Finding efficiencies and improving processes is just how you operate
  • You communicate clearly and confidently across teams, whether you're partnering with Buying, Operations, or Finance
  • You're scrappy, resourceful, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast paced, high growth environment

  • You hold a four year college degree or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage sales, gross margin, stock, and inventory turn goals for multiple categories within your division
  • Support monthly Open to Buy activities, incorporating current trends and future expectations to maximize opportunities and mitigate risks, and present forecasts and action plans to the E-commerce team
  • Review weekly sales performance, identify actionable insights, and adjust priorities as needed
  • Prepare weekly and monthly performance recaps with data and insights for team meetings
  • Participate in monthly vendor meetings, both one-on-one and as part of the broader team
  • Forecast demand at the category, brand, and SKU level and optimize inventory flow plans to maintain target stock levels
  • Create comprehensive quarterly hindsight reports and recommend forward-looking business strategies
  • Identify opportunities for SKU rationalization and assortment improvements
  • Develop pre-season inventory strategies for your categories using both top-down and bottoms-up planning approaches
  • Partner with the Merchandising team to shape future product and inventory strategies
  • Collaborate with key suppliers to maintain optimal inventory levels and provide accurate forecasts
  • Focus on top volume and top registered SKUs to maximize revenue, maintain in-stocks, and ensure a great customer experience
  • Manage the end-to-end order pipeline and negotiate flow requirements with vendors
