About The Position

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a temporary team member to support the Coagulation Laboratory with essential daily operations. In this role, you’ll help process and prepare samples, assist with routine clinical testing under supervision, and support laboratory workflow by managing supplies, answering client inquiries, and maintaining lab operations. This is a great opportunity for someone with a science background who enjoys hands-on laboratory work and contributing to a fast-paced diagnostic environment. Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a science related field, with up to two years of laboratory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency with standard commercial software (Microsoft Office), with the ability to learn advanced functions and new software quickly
  • Sound reasoning and analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent self-management practices to successfully organize competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detailed record keeping
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with tact and discretion
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including being able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 20 pounds and being able to sit or stand for extended periods of time at benches, workstations or while using laboratory equipment

Responsibilities

  • Accessioning samples and sample processing
  • Sample preparation and loading/unloading samples on laboratory analyzers
  • Reagent preparation and loading/unloading reagents on laboratory analyzers
  • Perform routine clinical testing under supervision (low complexity testing)
  • Assist with laboratory inventory management including receiving, recording, and stocking supplies
  • Answering phone calls, assisting clients with basic submission information, and recording case history for veterinarian review
  • Assist with lab care and maintenance tasks for daily operation
