About The Position

Homebase Medical is getting back to basics. Our mission is to optimize the quality of life for homebound older adults, allowing them to live independently and with dignity in their own homes. We make house calls – enabling access to quality wrap-around services for homebound older adults with complex health needs while improving the quality of their lives, right at home. We offer an array of medical and chronic care services and we’re backed by SCAN, a not-for-profit organization that has a history of supporting and improving the health and independence of older adults for over 45 years. We are looking for a Temporary Medical Assistant that will function as an extension of the Homebase clinician team by supporting patient Annual Wellness visits at our partner PCP clinics in Chula Vista and Central San Diego. The temporary Medical Assistant is the clinic's initial point of contact, completes front office administrative tasks and provides back office clinical support for the onsite clinician and support virtual visits and perform ancillary tests. Contract duration is approximately 2 months. This position is on-site at our partner primary care clinics in Chula Vista and Central San Diego. Schedule is regular clinic hours Mon-Fri from 8am - 5pm. Mileage is reimbursed.

Requirements

  • GED/High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), preferred
  • Completion of Medical Assistant program required
  • Bilingual English - Spanish preferred
  • 3-5 years front and back- medical office experience
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification
  • Experience in MS Office
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch as required.
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift, pull, push and/or carry up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally required.
  • Bio-Hazard exposure risk: This position requires job related duties that may include exposure to biohazards such as blood, bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Uniform, black scrub pants and polo shirt.
  • Closed toe shoes.

Responsibilities

  • Cordially greets and checks in all patients and visitors.
  • Escorts all patients to rooms, as appropriate.
  • Promptly answers all calls; screens and routes calls to appropriate person/department.
  • Responds appropriately to phone inquiries
  • Obtains accurate vital signs following protocols
  • Performs patient testing as directed by the onsite clinician which may include an EKG, administering a PHQ-9 and other testing as directed
  • Records patient data in charts in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintains examination/treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Prepares and administers immunizations, as directed by the onsite Clinician and as permitted by law
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies following clinic protocol
  • Collects and processes lab specimens including blood draws as directed
  • Schedules, coordinates, and monitors appointments to support timely care
  • Communicates results of the Chronic Care Assessment with patient's PCP
  • Assists onsite clinician with coordinating referrals through the PCP
