Are you passionate about cooking and working in a fast-paced kitchen environment? We're looking for a Temporary Line Cook (Summer) to join our dynamic team at LaSalle Market! As a key member of our kitchen staff, you'll help prepare and cook delicious dishes while ensuring high-quality standards.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a kitchen or as a line cook.
  • Basic understanding of food safety practices, such as food handling, cleaning, and sanitation.
  • Proficient in cooking techniques and the ability to prepare a variety of dishes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong focus on food quality, presentation, and portion control.
  • Ability to handle multiple orders simultaneously while maintaining a calm and positive attitude.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary training or relevant certifications.
  • Process Food Safety Certification (such as ServSafe or similar food safety training).
  • Proficiency in using kitchen knives safely and effectively for prepping ingredients.
  • Strong eye for plating food and attention to detail in the visual appeal of each dish.
  • Familiarity with dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan) and the ability to accommodate specific customer needs.
  • Clear communication with fellow kitchen staff and front-of-house team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food items according to recipes, ensuring high standards of quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, stoves, and ovens to cook and prepare food quickly and efficiently.
  • Ensure timely preparation of orders in a fast-paced environment, keeping track of special requests and dietary restrictions.
  • Assist with inventory control by restocking supplies as needed and ensuring kitchen items are organized and ready for use.
  • Keep workstations, kitchen tools, and equipment clean and sanitized, following food safety and hygiene protocols.
  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely delivery of orders.
  • Ensure the consistency of food quality, portion sizes, and presentation, meeting the café's standards.
  • Follow all safety guidelines related to kitchen operations, including proper handling of kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team to ensure smooth and efficient service.
