About The Position

The Children’s Center of Hamden is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Temporary Lifeguard to support our therapeutic recreation programming during the summer months. In this role, you’ll help maintain a safe, positive pool environment by actively monitoring swimmers, enforcing pool rules, and responding appropriately to emergencies. You’ll play an important part in ensuring children and adolescents in our care can safely enjoy recreational and therapeutic water activities. Strong attention to detail, professionalism, and a calm, confident presence are essential to success in this position.

Requirements

• Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent)
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or included in lifeguard credential)
• Ability to remain alert, calm, and responsive in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to enforce rules appropriately.
• Commitment to professionalism, dependability, and youth safety.
• Ability to work a flexible temporary schedule based on program needs.

Nice To Haves

• Experience lifeguarding in a pool setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively monitor pool and deck areas to ensure swimmer safety at all times.
• Enforce pool rules and safety procedures in a consistent, respectful manner.
• Respond to emergencies, including rescues, first aid, CPR, and use of AED as trained.
• Conduct routine safety checks of the pool area and equipment before and during use.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and secure pool environment.
• Support staff with safe swimmer supervision during scheduled programming.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support safe aquatics programming.
