About The Position

As a member of Dr. Margaret Frank’s lab, you will assist lab members in data collection and execution of experiments designed to investigate the genetics and genomics of plant grafting. You will provide routine to moderately complex technical lab support for a research program/facility. Other duties include: Preparing standard stains, media, buffers, and reagents. Recording experimental data, analyzing, and sharing results through preliminary reports to lab members. Performing routine lab procedures, including DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and sequencing preparation, using established protocols. Preparing and maintaining standard tissue and cell culture for experimentation. Analyzing data using straightforward statistical methods and computer software. Complete training on lab safety and proper handling of chemicals as required by CALS Environment, Health, and Safety. We are looking for a talented individual with an excellent work ethnic, who appreciates working in a research setting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 2 years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting
  • Prior knowledge of safety protocols in a lab setting and proper waste handling
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite – including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with Outlook
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with faculty, staff, and students
  • Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and well-being

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in biology, horticulture, or a similar field
