About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is now hiring summer temporary construction technicians! Whether you’re looking for temporary work for extra income through the summer months or looking to test out a new position prior to making a long-term commitment, we encourage you to apply! Pay rate of $19.941 per hour to start. Locations hiring: Bridgeport, Gering, Scottsbluff, Sidney, and Chadron. Summer positions, temporary, until November 30, 2026. Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
  • May require out of town, overnight travel.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is also required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Must have strong work ethic, dedication and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to safely move, drag, lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend or stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes and work around high-speed traffic.
  • Must be able to be reached to report to work outside scheduled work hours for highway emergencies within 45 minutes of notification.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework, training, and/or experience in math, construction management, and engineering.
  • Basic computer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Successful applicants will be under immediate supervision and trained to perform inspection on routine phases of construction projects.
  • May use windows-based computer programs, including Microsoft Word and/or Excel, to keep construction records and documentation, as necessary.
  • May also participate as a member of a survey crew and perform tests on construction materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
