The Temporary Guest Services Ambassador at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, plays a crucial role in enhancing the visitor experience by providing exceptional hospitality and support. This position involves greeting guests, assisting with ticket sales, managing guest flow during busy events, and ensuring a welcoming environment. The ambassador will also participate in training programs and stay informed about exhibitions to effectively engage with visitors and promote museum offerings.

  • Complete the Museum's Fine Art of Hospitality training program and adhere to service standards.
  • Greet and assist guests, providing a welcoming environment.
  • Sell or reserve tickets and memberships for various museum offerings.
  • Assist with entrance management during high-traffic events, including ticket scanning and line management.
  • Redirect guests to alternative experiences when necessary.
  • Participate in curatorial briefings about art and exhibitions.
  • Engage with guests to understand their interests and share knowledge about the museum's collections.
  • Make recommendations to enhance the visitor experience.
  • Distribute guest resources such as maps and schedules.
  • Understand visitor policies and emergency procedures to assist with guest safety.
  • Notify security of any safety or security concerns.
  • Ensure efficient guest flow by addressing signage and wayfinding issues.
  • Exceptional social skills, including initiating interactions and maintaining eye contact.
  • Empathetic and persuasive communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Tidy appearance and good hygiene.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure and tactfully handle guest feedback.
  • Availability to work up to 40 hours per week, including evenings and holidays.
  • Ability to stand and move around the museum for extended periods.
  • Experience in museum, retail, or hospitality industry is a plus.
  • Strong interest and basic knowledge about art.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Some college education preferred.
  • Fluency in more than one language, especially Spanish, is preferred.
  • Experience with cash and credit card transactions.
  • Familiarity with POS and online ticketing systems.
