About The Position

Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) is seeking qualified applicants for a grounds keeping position. The role involves maintaining school district grounds, including tasks such as mowing, landscaping, and operating various types of equipment. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in grounds keeping. Applicants must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and be able to work effectively as part of a team. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated successful grounds keeping experience within the last ten years.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's license.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and team leader.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines.
  • Regular attendance to carry out duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people in person, electronically, in writing, and over the phone.
  • Ability to walk on various types of terrain and work in high places.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to safely operate various types of trucks, landscaping equipment, and hand tools.
  • Ability to obtain job related certifications within 12 months.
  • Class 'A' CDL endorsement within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out all maintenance associated with school district grounds including mowing, landscaping, fencing, paving, and concrete work.
  • Operate various types of power tools and equipment used for grounds maintenance.
  • Perform daily maintenance on vehicles and request repairs as needed.
  • Prepare soil, plant, and irrigate new lawns; seed, fertilize, aerate, edge, mow, and maintain lawns.
  • Plant and maintain shrub and flower beds; repair damage and replace plants as necessary.
  • Clean debris from grounds, including leaves, trash, and snow.
  • Inspect school district grounds for safety hazards and report or correct as needed.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
