About The Position

The temporary-flexible campus safety officer is responsible for the safety and security of persons and property on Goucher College's campus. This role is crucial in maintaining a secure environment and is carried out through various means, including foot and mobile patrols, as well as fixed post assignments. As an essential personnel position, the campus safety officer will be hired with the understanding that they may work between 0-19 hours per week, with no guaranteed hours. Employees from the temporary pool will be called in on an as-needed basis, with as much advance notice as possible. The campus safety officer plays a vital role in greeting and assisting guests and visitors entering the campus, providing friendly and informative assistance while monitoring and enforcing access control procedures to ensure that only authorized personnel and visitors enter the premises. This position requires a vigilant presence, continuously observing surroundings and promptly addressing any security concerns or breaches. The officer will also monitor CCTV systems to oversee campus activities, traffic, and identify any suspicious behavior or incidents. Effective communication is essential in this role, as the officer will need to coordinate responses and share information with security team members and relevant personnel via radio. Building and maintaining good relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other law enforcement agencies is also a key responsibility. The officer will be expected to stay updated on campus events, security alerts, and operational changes by regularly checking emails and other communication channels. Additionally, the officer will prepare and submit detailed reports on incidents, property damage, and any security-related matters as required, while also supporting the student worker program by training and working alongside individuals for events and activities.
