About The Position

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to support the mission and activities of the university. This role involves handling budgetary, accounting, and reporting functions under the direction of the Principal Finance Analyst. The incumbent will be responsible for managing and coordinating the production and complex analysis of monthly financial reports, overseeing operating budgets of assigned accounts totaling approximately $23 million in annual funding. The position requires a seasoned professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies, capable of resolving a wide range of issues in both imaginative and practical ways. The analyst will conduct complex financial analyses, develop recommendations for policy changes, and ensure compliance with university policies. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as reviewing purchasing activities, serving as a Kuali Financial System Fiscal Officer, and overseeing annual processes related to technology and equipment.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years' experience conducting complex financial analysis and managing a multi-million-dollar budget.
  • Ability to evaluate existing policies and procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Excel, including filters, pivot tables, macros, Vlookup, and complex formulas.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, analyze complex data, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and meet deadlines with attention to quality.
  • Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to independently gather information and perform financial analysis assignments.
  • Proven ability to present information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and strong service orientation.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and function as a team member.
  • Thorough knowledge of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Responsibilities

  • Handle budgetary, accounting, and reporting functions that support UCI's mission.
  • Develop recommendations for new and changes to existing policies and procedures.
  • Manage and coordinate the production and complex analysis of monthly financial reports.
  • Oversee operating budgets of assigned accounts representing approximately $23 million in annual funding.
  • Conduct complex financial analysis involving special projects such as the Collections database and contracts and grants.
  • Conduct analysis and reconciliation of the permanent budget, identifying errors and resolving problems.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting.
  • Develop and implement a plan for the annual fiscal close process.
  • Review and approve purchasing and reimbursement activities.
  • Serve as Kuali Financial System (KFS) Fiscal Officer for assigned accounts.
