About The Position

East Stroudsburg University is hiring for a Temporary ESU4KIDS Summer Instructor! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers, and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. As the Temporary ESU4KIDS Summer Instructor, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable instructing a diverse group of youth on STEM and/or Literacy. You will be an active member of the Reading Team and will work closely with the Department chairs to plan various enriching activities for participants. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your STEM and/or English background, and your experience teaching in an academic setting all while both building and implementing effective lesson plans. To be successful in this role, you must possess K to 6 teaching experience, the ability to implement effective daily or weekly programs, and excellent communication skills. Your normal schedule will be Monday to Thursdays 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a Temporary ESU4KIDS Summer Instructor. This role will be from July 21st to 24th and July 28th to 31st. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

Requirements

  • Teaching Certification.
  • K-6 Teaching Experience.
  • Collaborates/works well with teammates and supervisors.
  • Ability to demonstrate lesson/activity planning and implementation at a daily/weekly/program level.
  • Experience in facilitating STREAM based activities indoors and outdoors/hands-on activities (Preferred).
  • Fulfill 36 hours of planning activities prior to the start of summer program.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement STEM+Literacy programming for children.
  • Encouraging positive behaviors in the activity sessions.
  • Communicating with parents as needed.
  • Working with the faculty's team to communicate any child's needs (homesickness/health concerns/behavior).
  • Maintaining cleanliness and order for activity areas & equipment; leaving activity areas clean at the end of each session.
  • Being present and engaged at all activities.
