About The Position

Equipment Operators support a variety of tasks related to the upkeep of roads, including use of tractors, Trackless, skid steers, bike lane sweeper, truck mounted crane, and all size vehicles and attachments requiring a DZ licence. They are responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and servicing of motorized vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

  • You have a high school diploma, or equivalent along with 1 to 2 years of demonstrated equipment experience related to park roads maintenance.
  • You bring strong oral and written communication skills, customer service and problem-solving abilities to this role.
  • Your effective time management skills and flexibility to adapt to a variety of tasks is an asset.
  • You work well as part of a team and minimal supervision.
  • You must be physically capable of performing required duties, which include working in all weather conditions.
  • This position involves shift work including daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • A valid DZ driver’s license is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract with no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire, and/or no administrative driver license (ADLS) suspensions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain vehicles, equipment, and attachments safely and efficiently, in accordance with standard operating procedures and safe work practices.
  • Operate City vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, tractors, trailers, and associated attachments, as required.
  • Operating equipment including hand tools and machines within the road allowance.
  • Perform daily equipment checks, carry out minor repairs as prescribed, and schedule major repairs through the Supervisor.
  • Manually remove debris, garbage, materials and objects from within City’s right away and from creeks, storm drains, ditches and culverts.
  • Perform the duties of traffic control person, as required or assigned.
  • Participate in loose leaf collection and winter control operations, if required.
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner, including daily activity sheets, training documentation, and other required paperwork.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, and relevant Federal, Provincial, and City regulations, policies, and procedures.
