About The Position

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Temporary Entry Communications Technician for the Enterprise Technology department. This position is expected to continue until August 31, 2026, and is benefits-eligible. The selected candidates will be responsible for the installation of telecommunications cabling in various structures, often in cramped spaces or at heights. The role requires operating mechanical and electrical equipment in close proximity to high-voltage and high-pressure steam pipes. Candidates must have a valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record.

Requirements

• High School graduate or GED.
• Work constructively as a team member.
• Exercise good safety habits.
• Experience installing inside plant communications cabling and wireless access points.
• Experience in commercial construction work.

Responsibilities

• Install Telecom cabling in new and existing structures in enclosed and cramped spaces or at heights.
• Operate mechanical and electrical equipment used in the installation of cabling.
• Complete reports of time, materials, and other necessary items required for assigned tasks.
• Set up and dismantle equipment.
• Operate a UT vehicle.
