About The Position

The Cooks/Food Service Workers at UC Davis are responsible for the preparation and service of food items in accordance with established standards and recipes. This role includes ensuring food quality, safety, and customer satisfaction while working in various kitchen environments. Cooks will prepare entrees and side dishes, while Food Service Workers will handle tasks ranging from cleaning to food preparation and customer service. The position requires adherence to sanitation and safety regulations and may involve working independently or as part of a team.

Requirements

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
• Demonstrated experience in a culinary environment, particularly in high-volume settings.
• Knowledge of food safety handling techniques and sanitation standards.
• Ability to operate various kitchen equipment including ranges, ovens, and mixers.
• Experience with culinary techniques such as sautéing, grilling, and frying.
• Ability to follow recipes and maintain portion control for cost containment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a hospital or academic environment.
• Certification in sanitation/Foodborne Illness prevention.
• Experience operating a computerized cash register.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food items according to set recipe specifications and established standards.
• Ensure quality, taste, appearance, and portioning of food items.
• Serve as backup for the Sous Chef or Senior Cook when necessary.
• Perform duties in areas such as tray line, cafeteria, grills, deli, and catering.
• Clean and maintain kitchen and customer areas, including bathrooms.
• Operate industrial kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
• Follow all sanitation and safety regulations related to food handling.
• Assist with cash handling and cashiering duties as needed.
