About The Position

Assist in the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of low and medium voltage metal-enclosed and metal-clad switchgear, as well as all underground, exposed, and overhead distribution systems, including raceways and both insulated and non-insulated cable systems, all lighting systems, and all emergency systems.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • At least two years of related apprentice-level experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical and industrial equipment.
  • Have a current Texas apprentice electrician license, or completed a lineman program, or attain one within 3 months from the hire date
  • This job requires a Class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

  • More than two years of related apprentice-level experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical and industrial equipment in a power plant or a distribution system.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of low and medium voltage metal-enclosed and metal-clad switchgear, as well as all underground, exposed, and overhead distribution systems, including raceways and both insulated and non-insulated cable systems, all lighting systems, and all emergency systems.
  • Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance of low and medium-voltage circuit breakers, medium and low-voltage cable pulling, and splicing for lead-jacketed and EPR cables.
  • Designated personnel are required to climb high structures to service street lighting, street and area lighting, and other electrical-related items within the Electrical distribution system.
  • Assist with operating forklift, bobcat, backhoe, bucket truck, cable trailer, cable pulling devices, and assorted personnel lifts.
  • Drive the UT vehicle.
  • Maintains an acceptable driving record as required by UT Systems Policy UTS157.
  • Cleans and maintains all equipment, work areas, and vehicles.
  • Assists with and maintains records of equipment repair, and inventory of spare parts and other materials.
  • Works in conjunction with other trades and craft personnel in support of systems within a power and chill water production environment, utility tunnels, and campus buildings.
  • Follow all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, and identify and report safety hazards.
  • Complies with standards of workmanship and safety in the workplace.
  • Safely performs work tasks, wears proper personal protective equipment, and reports near misses and incidents.
  • Identifies, reports, and corrects safety hazards.
  • Works around hazardous materials, high temperatures, and loud environments.
  • Performs elevated work on scaffolding, platforms, and personnel lifts.
  • Works in confined spaces, including tunnels and manholes.
  • Operates bridge-cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other equipment as required.

  • Work effectively remotely and on campus.
  • Drive the university vehicle or cart.
