Specific Education Assistant Role at Dorena EA position is established to address Dorena School's focus on both social-emotional learning and academic achievement for all students. 1. Education Assistant: Behavior & Social-Emotional Support This role is critical to Dorena's goal of ensuring all students are knowledgeable, responsible, caring, and contributing members of society through trauma-sensitive social and emotional learning. The focus is on supporting a community where all students feel safe, valued, and heard. Behavioral Intervention: Provides specific, evidence-based behavioral support and interventions to students. Co-Regulating Support: Actively co-regulates with students, helping them manage emotions and return to a regulated state for learning. This aligns with celebrating mistakes as growth opportunities. Social-Emotional Breaks: Runs and manages structured social-emotional learning breaks as outlined in student plans or by the teacher, promoting positive social and emotional development. Support & Modeling: Assists students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults. Models appropriate social and emotional behaviors, and conflict resolution. Documentation: Assists in collecting data on student behavior and interventions as directed by the teacher or administrator. 2. Education Assistant: Academic Support This role directly supports Dorena's goal of creating and sustaining reading and math curriculum and instructional practices that lead to high-quality learning for every student, especially in the secondary grades. This position focuses on rigorous learning and narrowing achievement gaps. Targeted Academic Assistance: Provides individualized and small-group support to K-8th grade students in core academic areas, including reading, math, and writing . Rigor and Stamina: Supports students in working with rigor and stamina on assignments, promoting high standards for academic achievement. Progress Monitoring: Assists the teacher in testing, evaluating, and tracking student progress in upper-grade core subjects. Materials Preparation: Prepares, adapts, and organizes materials specifically for the K-8th grade curriculum to support instruction and high-quality learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Simplified General) The Education Assistant performs critical duties to support classroom operations, instruction, and student well-being, aligning with Dorena School's commitment to high expectations and a supportive community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers by working with students, individually or in groups, on lessons and assignments (especially in reading, math, and writing).
  • Conduct student assessments and track progress as directed.
  • Prepare, set up, and maintain classroom materials and supplies.
  • Perform essential clerical and record-keeping tasks for staff (e.g., grading, filing, copying, and taking attendance).
  • Monitor and assist students throughout the day (in the classroom, at lunch, recess, etc.) to ensure a safe learning environment .
  • Follow all daily schedules, school policies, and provide minor first aid as needed.
  • Provides specific, evidence-based behavioral support and interventions to students.
