About The Position

The Temporary Early College Registration Advisor works in direct relationship with new and returning early college students at Hagerstown Community College. The advisor will assist students in selecting their courses, provide guidance on their educational and career plans, and help navigate their college experience, including referrals to campus resources. This position requires availability on Monday evenings from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Daytime hours (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM) are available, especially during peak registration periods from May through August and October through January.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; some experience in academic advising, student services, or related roles, preferably in a community college or high school setting; knowledge and experience with a student information system.
  • Interpersonal skills to guide students in their academic decision-making
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills in dealing with the early college student population
  • Advising and communication skills to deal effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Microsoft Office Suite and student information system skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides registration support:
  • Reviews and interprets high school transcripts, including course listings, grades, and codes.
  • Analyzes SAT, ACT, Hagerstown Community College placement test results, and Maryland State Department of Education College and Career Readiness Standards eligibility.
  • Clarifies degree, certificate, and letter of recognition program requirements as outlined in the college catalog.
  • Assists students with registration and navigating HCC's student information system, Self Service.
  • Advises students on available payment procedures and scholarship opportunities (if applicable).
  • Provides student guidance
  • Helps students to understand their aptitudes, capabilities, and limitations in making personal decisions, educational plans, and career choices.
  • Refers students to appropriate campus offices and services based on their specific needs.
  • Explains college policies and procedures, tailoring information to meet each student's unique needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
