About The Position

The New School, founded in 1919 in New York City, is an institution that redefines education, creativity, and innovation, serving over 9,000 students globally across more than 135 degree programs. It is recognized for its progressive, interdisciplinary approach. The Temporary Cybersecurity Intern will report to the Cybersecurity Lead and contribute to enhancing the university's cybersecurity posture. This role involves daily collaboration with the Information Technology division and requires strong technical knowledge of endpoints (Macs and PCs), networking technologies, and security best practices. The ideal candidate is a self-starter capable of managing and executing assigned cybersecurity projects from initiation to successful rollout and validation, with guidance from the CyberSec Lead.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least a rising senior and must have a track record of student success and potential as demonstrated by a minimum 3.2 GPA, a project portfolio, prior work experiences and/or the recommendation of a professor.
  • Understanding of cyber security terms and frameworks.
  • Ability to read, understand and carry out technical actions provided by a vendor or training website without supervision
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, time management, communications, organizational skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, in written and verbal form.
  • Basic G-suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) skills

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA Security Plus or Network Plus certification or other cybersecurity certifications
  • Previous IT or cyber security work experience for a small or medium sized business

Responsibilities

  • Works with the CyberSec lead to identify appropriate cybersecurity projects within their skill set.
  • Produces a cybersecurity project roadmap with a timeline and specified criteria that define a successful outcome.
  • Engage appropriate stakeholders to determine their position and requirements in relation to the specified project outcomes.
  • Identify and successfully complete applicable cybersecurity tool or methodology training that is required for successful completion of the project with guidance and funding from the Cybersecurity Lead.
  • Perform evaluation of the completed cybersecurity project in relation to the CIS Top 18 framework.
