About The Position
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Social Workers are valuable members of our team, who provide empathic care to our patients, their families and visitors, with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Social Workers apply the principles and practices of their profession to provide integrated social casework, including direct counseling, therapy, advocacy, and other services to individuals, families and groups in a variety of settings. Social Workers plan, implement, coordinate and document treatment for individuals diagnosed with: mental illness and serious emotional disturbance; mental retardation and developmental disabilities; work-related illnesses or injuries; chemical addiction; or perpetrators or victims of neglect, abuse, or crime who need therapeutic intervention, habilitation, training, supervision and re-socialization, or confinement. Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care and effectively respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence. Qualified candidates will assist Psychiatric treatment team in an active Psychiatric Emergency setting focusing on interventions of Pediatric, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatric ED cases. Candidate will be able to work independently and initiate case follow up.
