About The Position

Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) is seeking a Water Recreation Facility - Water Treatment Operator. This position requires a high school graduate or equivalent and two years of successful experience in a similar role. The operator will oversee the maintenance and operation of pool systems, ensuring compliance with health standards and codes related to water quality and facility safety. The role involves leadership responsibilities, including training and evaluating the performance of pool assistants. The operator must possess a current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification and be able to work effectively as part of a team while managing custodial employees.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years successful experience as a Water Recreation Facility - Water Treatment Operator.
  • Current National Swimming Pool and Spa Foundation - Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of health standards and codes related to water quality, facilities, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to oversee, train, and monitor job performance.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team leader and team member.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of custodial employees.
  • Ability to obtain Building Operator Certification (BOC) within one year of promotion/hire.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and meet tight time constraints.
  • Ability to clean to meet acceptable health and environmental standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people.
  • Ability to work flexible hours/days when necessary.
  • Obtain WISHA approved first aid/CPR certification and AED certification within ninety days of hire.
  • Current ISSAS Standards district training and certification.
  • Must obtain confined space certification within sixty days of hire.
  • Good mechanical aptitude for maintenance on mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students.
  • Perform assigned cleaning tasks, including cleaning restrooms, locker/changing rooms, cafeteria floors, carpets, walls, furniture, and whiteboards.
  • Assist in the performance and discipline process as needed.
  • Provide direction, feedback, and guidance to enable crews to perform their job requirements.
  • Operate and oversee pool systems, including diagnosis, repair, and replacement of pool-related equipment.
  • Maintain chemicals and pool filter systems.
  • Inspect pool facility, locker rooms, and associated spaces for safety and repairs needed.
  • Advise on matters concerning mechanical equipment and/or maintenance.
  • Inventory and order cleaning supplies.
  • Comply with all applicable health codes and standards for the operation of a Water Recreation Facility.
