About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Temporary Recreation Assistant to the team! This position will be responsible for facilitating reservations for McDowell Nature Preserve Campground, Nature Preserve Shelters and Copperhead Island rental. The incumbent will also be responsible for grounds maintenance and upkeep within the Campground, monitoring of the grounds, answering questions, enforcing rules, and ensuring the safety of our guests and their belongings. The successful candidate would be customer service driven and demonstrate the ability to assess a situation, use quick and reasonable judgment and resolve problems diplomatically. This position will work a minimum of 16 hours per week, but this could extend to 40 hours during peak times and training periods. The weekly schedule will vary, but will include weekends, holidays, and some weekdays based upon facility and business needs. Requirements

  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? N/A
  • Computer Skills: General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Licenses and Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; First Aid/CPR

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals.
  • Greet arriving guests, assist with check-in and check-out
  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
  • Enforce campground and park rules and regulations.
  • Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals.
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas, including campsites, fire pits, parking areas, etc.
  • Handles inquiries and complaints from public.
  • Assist with special events and field trips
