Temporary Cafe & Retail Associate
About The Position
This temporary role creates the Edelman Fossil Park and Museum (EFM) experience for our guests by providing them with prompt service, quality food and drink, and maintaining a clean, comfortable retail store and cafe environment. In this role, we expect that you will communicate effectively and appropriately with all guests. The Cafe & Retail Associate is responsible for delivering a world-class experience that entices our guests to become loyal museum members. This role also includes cleaning and maintaining food safety standards, offering assistance, making recommendations, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Previous work experience as a Barista, Waiter/Waitress or Retail Associate
- Hands-on experience with brewing equipment, cooking equipment, etc.
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations
- Flexibility to work various shifts
- Basic math skills & cash-handling experience
- Ability to gauge guests' preferences
- Excellent communication skills
- High school diploma or GED; relevant training is a plus
Responsibilities
- Greet all guests as they enter the cafe or the store space.
- Efficiently operate a point-of-sale system by conducting café, retail, and the occasional admission transaction using a dedicated POS system
- Walk guests through drink and food menus and answer their questions regarding ingredients or allergens
- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios, allergens, etc.)
- Prepare and serve beverages following recipes
- Prepare and serve foods while complying to procedures
- Familiarizing oneself with the content of the museum, committing to the mission, and be comfortable in speaking with guests about their experience
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
- Familiarize oneself with the products sold within the museum store and be comfortable recommending or explaining details of products to guests
- Assist in loss prevention by keeping the café and museum store clean, well-organized, and well-stocked at all times. Occasional inventory checks will be expected
- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs; maintain regular cleanings of the brewing equipment as well
- Comply with health and safety regulations; become ServSafe certified within 3 months
- Communicate customer feedback to supervisors and managers and recommend new menu items
- Other duties as assigned by management and supervisors
