About The Position

The Home for Little Wanderers' Wediko NY program is seeking an experienced bilingual (Spanish) Temp PT School-Based Counselor to support an elementary school in the Bronx. The School-Based Counselor will be responsible for delivering program activities and direct services, conducting outreach, and handling administrative tasks such as documentation for billing and clinical purposes. This is a temporary full-time position from mid-April through June 2026, working 3 days a week (24 hours). The position reports to the Director of NY Programs. If funding is secured, this position may have the opportunity to transition to a permanent role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with a minimum of 2 plus years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced degree in mental health/counseling (e.g., MSW, M.S. Ed in Counseling, MFT, etc.) preferred.
  • At least 1 year plus of experience working within or managing programs serving youth and families
  • Bilingual Spanish required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to approach challenges in a supportive and creative manner
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development, proven use of supervision to improve practice

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with new arrivals and English language learners preferred.
  • Some knowledge of immigration resources and services preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates school-based programming and supports planning with school administration and management of services
  • Responsible for a caseload of students, including maintaining attendance and educational progress, providing students and families with continuous feedback and resources to meet the needs and ensure academic success
  • Provides individual and group mentoring to students on a weekly basis
  • Supports and co-facilitates classroom sessions as requested, i.e. Advisory, Side by Side, and/or SEL curriculum
  • Provides outreach to students and their families, including phone calls, written correspondence, and home visits
  • Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff
  • Provides crisis counseling, conflict mediation and social-emotional support
  • Completes screenings, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and provides referrals
  • Facilitates use of evaluation tools for school-based services
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff development opportunities
  • Collaborates on and creates individualized plans to support student progress
  • Participate in school team meetings as requested
  • Plans and facilitate professional development workshops for school staff
  • Cultivates and maintains effective relationships with school staff and other school-based partners
