About The Position

The Bilingual GIS & Agrivoltaics Education Specialist will lead the development, adaptation, and delivery of a bilingual (Spanish–English) GIS agrivoltaics siting curriculum for farmworker high school–aged youth and their families in the Eastern Coachella Valley. This position will work collaboratively with the Robert Redford Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability (RRC) at Pitzer College and Alianza Nacional de Campesinas (ANC) to support workforce development objectives under the Inland SoCal Thrive Catalyst Pre-Development Grant. The Specialist will integrate SoCal Earth, a geospatial data platform with 300+ environmental layers, into culturally responsive curriculum and instruction that introduces youth to clean energy, land-use planning, and agrivoltaics career pathways. The role combines technical GIS work, curriculum design, bilingual instruction, and community-centered engagement. The Fellow will work with the director and other Redford Conservancy staff as needed to coordinate and conduct training as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in GIS, environmental education curriculum/modules.
  • Experience developing and teaching educational curriculum or training modules, particularly for youth or community audiences.
  • Strong understanding of or interest in agrivoltaics, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, or environmental justice.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to teach, present, and facilitate discussions in both languages.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, culturally responsive, and engaging manner.
  • Experience working with farmworker, immigrant, or underserved communities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage projects independently and meet grant timelines.
  • Comfort with participatory, community-based learning models.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust across diverse age groups and cultural contexts.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, and digital learning tools; comfort with multimedia content creation a plus.
  • Effective public speaking and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a flexible, grant-driven environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Zoom.
  • Comfortable using digital cameras and video recording devices, and integrating photographs, video, and other visual elements with text and other media.
  • Effective and captivating public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Engaging personality with the ability to quickly develop positive working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to serve as a leader, modelling excellence in behavior and performance, assuming personal ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment, with a motivation to find opportunities and pitch initiatives to increase access for marginalized students to environmental education and the Redford Conservancy.
  • Ability to train, coach and manage college-aged student employees.
  • Knowledgeable in working with college and secondary school students.
  • Demonstrate integrity, discretion, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Provide own transportation to off-campus locations.
  • Recommended: a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a related field such as environmental analysis or GIS.
  • Must have demonstrated experience developing GIS workflows, writing and/or field-based educational modules for multiple age groups, plus experience training and directing the work of others.
